Russia's baltic coast is heavily defended, since many critical economic and political centers are near it. Included in the system is a coast defense system in Latvia, closing the Gulf of Riga to possible attack.

The defenses of Petrograd include 8 356mm/52 in two batteries of four guns each.

The defenses of Tallinn include 6 356mm/52 in two triple turrets and 6 234mm/54 in two triple turrets.











The other major defenses closing the Gulf of Riga and the islands of Dago and Osel each consist of 4 305mm/40 guns in twin turrets and 6 234mm/54 in triple turrets.

These turrets have been modified to permit elevations of up to 45 degrees, to ensure especially long range fire, up to 26,000 meters for 305mm/40, and 33,200 meters for 234mm/54.
