New Caledonia has powerful coast defenses, consisting of 4 305mm and 12 240mm guns from a Danton class predreadnought battleship,
4 305mm and 6 138mm guns from the Courbet class battleship Paris, and 32 164mm guns manufactured for coast defenses.
Two batteries of Obukhoff 420mm guns are presently (Fall 1934) being installed. Their completion is expected by the end
of 1935.
